“Woman against the light” is an artistic intervention with live music and dance piece. Based on a composition by Fèlix Pastor and directed by Enric Llorach, it features dancer Sonia Fernández Lage, cellist Ingrid Kuntzmann and accordionist Edurne Arizu performing the visit of a woman to the Mies van der Rohe Pavilion, where the sculpture Dawn and the touch of Lilly Reich resonate in its design.
Built in 1929, the German National Pavilion was meant to be crossed. Yet it is also a labyrinth where we get lost for a good while: when crossing the Pavilion, we are forced to walk paths running lengthwise.
Inside the Pavilion is a wall of onyx. Veins of silicon burst into view just as Buñuel and Dalí would also wound us in 1929. Our presence becoming ghostly, we crawl through the Pavilion until we encounter a statue over the water: a new human form, large, female and captured just as she awakens.
