2018- First edition of the Lilly Reich Grant for equality in architecture

During the Architecture week 2018 Fundació Mies van der Rohe presents the first call for the Lilly Reich research grant for equality in architecture. In recognition of Lilly Reich, co-author of the German Pavilion in Barcelona in 1929 together with Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, the scholarship supports the study, dissemination and visibility of contributions in the field of architecture that have been unduly relegated or neglected for discriminatory reasons.

As an exception, in this first edition, the grant is explicitly addressed to the study of the work by Lilly Reich herself, and to delving into the knowledge and dissemination of an essential figure in the history of modern architecture.

Submission of application period from 12.05.2018 to 20.07.2018

Re-enactment: Lilly Reich’s work occupies the Barcelona Pavilion is the granted project of the first edition of the Lilly Reich Grant for equality in architecture.

Re-enactment is a material response to the pervasive invisibility of Lilly Reich’s work. It arises with a clear motivation: to reveal the architecture designed by Lilly Reich for the German sections of the 1929 International Exposition inside eight Noucentista Palaces, an area that is fifty times greater in magnitude than the Pavilion itself.
