On its vocation to promote knowledge and discussion on architecture across Europe, the Fundació Mies van der Rohe participates on the third edition of 4DesignDays festival in Katowice, Poland. The Fundation’s programs and prizes coordinator Ivan Blasi takes part on the debate “What do the buildings we build tell others about us? How does architecture respond to social needs?” centred around the discussion on architecture’s duality between its aesthetic and functional goals and the social, environmental and cultural challenges that could potentially help to face. On the following session, Blasi moderates a debate on the shape of the cities of the future concerning topics like balanced character, social equality, mobility and citizen participation. The third session brings up the debate about Architectural and city planning competitions and their role in the shaping of architectural culture, in which we take part sharing the experience with the European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture – Mies van der Rohe Award.
