Artists’ residences begin with Artists in Architecture. Re-activating Modern European Houses

The juries of Artists in Architecture. Re-activating Modern European Houses, a project organized in collaboration with BOZAR and the University of Naples – Federico II with the support of the European Commission – Creative Europe, have already designated the winners and the stage of residencies of artists will begin in the selection of six unique houses of the twentieth century that were built or inhabited by leading figures of the European intelligentsia and culture.

The 6 winning entries are: Luke James (house LeWitt), Jacques LIGOT (house Strebelle), Susanne Mariachi and Helene Schauer (house Iancu), Elena Mazzi (house Fiorelli), Something Fantastic (Julian Schubert, Elena Schütz, Leonard Streich) with Fernanda Tellez (House Van Der Meer) and Ben Weir (Casa Vilaró). The call gathered 362 proposals of visual artists, architects, writers, musicians, dancers, set designers, actors …

For the residence in Casa Vilaró, the Fundació Mies van der Rohe had a jury of experts formed by Teresa Grandas, curator of exhibitions at the MACBA, Lluís Nacenta, director of Hangar, production, research and visual arts center, Rebeca Franquesa representative of the property of Casa Vilaró and Ariadna Perich, coordinator of the Artists in Architecture project at the Fundació Mies van der Rohe. This jury chose the artist and architect Ben Weir, resident in Belfast, for his specific interest and critical attitude around the modern architectural heritage, visible in different projects that have generated an interesting artistic production.

The residences will take place between July 1 and September 30 and the result can be seen during the fall of 2019 in a collective exhibition in Bozar.
