Conference Cherishing Heritage

Fundació Mies van der Rohe takes part in this key event of the European Year of Cultural Heritage which has the aim to promote the public debate on quality principles in EU-funded interventions on cultural heritage.

The conference will be divided into debates on how to define certain quality standards and principles and include them in European-wide specialized institutions; how to ensure this quality standards on all heritage interventions from the design phase to the implementation, monitoring and evaluation through regulations in a EU and national levels;  how to strengthen the drivers of quality through good governance, research, education and acknowledgement of quality interventions on the European heritage.

This conference and many other activities throughout this year are dedicated to European Cultural Heritage to emphasize its value as “a resource for society, retaining and transmitting the many and diverse values of Europe’s culture to the future”; its value as “inheritance or legacy to the future generations that is not only material, since it embeds ideals, principles and values that constitute a shared source of remembrance, understanding, identity, dialogue, cohesion and creativity for Europe”; and because cultural heritage matters for Europeans: “more than 80 percent feel that it is important to them personally, to their local community, to their region and to their country”.
