The Fundació Mies van der Rohe participates on the architectural international debate at the Asia-Europe meeting in BOZAR, Brussels. As part of the European Year of Cultural Heritage the discussion is held with YTAA winners and participants from Europe (Poland, Germany) and Asia (Korea, China), the two invited countries to the 2018 YTAA edition.
Hendrik Brinkmann, with “Neue Bau|Akademie Berlin“, Iwo Borkowicz with “A Symbiotic Relation of Cooperative Social Housing and Dispersed Tourism in Habana Vieja” and SungBum Heo with his proposal Urban Safari present their projects and get the feedback of Chinese architect Wang Shu (Pritzker Prize 2012) from Amateur Architecture Studio and Belgian architect Paul Robbrecht from Robbrecht en Daem architecten (2013 EU Mies Award finalist with the Market Hall in Ghent). The exchange of ideas focuses on the role of cultural legacy in their respective projects.
The debate is moderated by Ivan Blasi, curator of Prizes and Programmes of the Fundació Mies van der Rohe and Kris Gao, coordinator of YTAA in China, who explains the differences and similarities between Chinese and European graduation projects.
The second part of this event is a conversation between Shu and Robbrecht about the convergences and differences in the way European and Asian architects/designers deal with the topic of heritage in their contemporary projects that will moderated by Belgian professor and editor Véronique Patteeuw.
