Architecture Week 2020

Are you ready to begin the Architecture Week from home? This year this shared initiative promoted by Ajuntament de Barcelona, Col·legi d’Arquitectes de Catalunya and Fundació Mies van der Rohe, in collaboration with Barcelona Building Construmat and Arquinfad offers you more than a hundred activities designed with and for all of you. You can see them all on the Architecture Week website.

Here are the proposals we make from Fundació Mies van der Rohe:

In resonance with the guest space of the Architecture Week that this year is the coast of Barcelona we propose the exhibition Architectures on the waterfront in digital format, as well as the recording of the round table that presented the physical version of the exhibition, organized together with Arquitectes x l’Arquitectura in the Museu Marítim of Barcelona, and with ‘Ideas on the waterfront‘, pecha kucha of the proposals on the future of this area organized with Barcelona Regional. The exhibition is conceived as a contribution, from the archives of the European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture – Mies van der Rohe Award, to the public debate on the challenges of European architecture and urbanism. In the same framework of the EU Mies Award on May 14 we will make all the final projects nominated in the current edition of the Young Talent Architecture Award public. Congratulations to the young talents!

Also to contribute to the debate, on the communication challenges of contemporary architecture in this case, we invite media from all over Europe and those interested in the ways in which knowledge about architecture is spread and disseminated in the second edition of Architecture and the Media, this year with a special emphasis on audiovisual media.

During these days we do not forget the intervention Re-enactment: the work of Lilly Reich occupies the Barcelona Pavilion (which awaits in the Pavilion and you will be able to visit as soon as we reopen): you can enjoy new material recorded during the presentation of the intervention or purposey produced by its author, Laura Martínez de Guereñu. If you are interested in our program of artistic interventions, we will provide you with the presentation of Anna and Eugeni Bach of their intervention in the Pavilion “Mies Missing Materiality” and the conference of the architect and artist Ben Weir on his intervention at Casa Vilaró by Sixte Illescas within the framework of the European program Artists in Architecture.

Throughout the Architecture Week you can enjoy discounts and participate in the raffle for a set of architecture books or win one of the prizes if you are willing to share an illustration or plan of yours and participate in the drawing contest of the Mies van der Rohe Pavilion (also open to drawings by young people and children) or your sketch of any of the works of the EU Mies Award.
