Mies van der Rohe. Three views on the 50 years of an enduring legacy

The Fundació Mies van der Rohe organizes, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of Mies van der Rohe’s death, a series of conferences on December 9th, 10th and 11th on the enduring legacy of the architect and his work.

On 9th we will dedicate it to the ‘lives’ of the European buildings of Mies van der Rohe that forever changed the way of understanding architecture: we have invited the directors of the Weissenhofsiedlung of Stuttgart, the Lange and Esters houses of Krefeld, Villa Tugendhat of Brno, the Lemke house and the Neue Nationalgalerie in Berlin to tell us about the vicissitudes of these works and the institutions that take care of them.

On 10th we will make clear the research carried out from Barcelona on the architecture and work of Mies van der Rohe and in some cases of Lilly Reich. The authors of some of these theses read at the UPC will share the highlights of their research and the reading we can do if we apply it to the Barcelona Pavilion itself.

On 11th we will talk about the preservation, restoration and reconstruction of the work of Mies van der Rohe with the architect responsible for the interventions in the Crown Hall or the Lake Shore Drive Apartments in Chicago among others. And we will present the reissue of the book “Mies van der Rohe. The Barcelona Pavilion” with the architects responsible for its reconstruction.
