The submission of proposals for the fifth edition of Architecture Week, which will take place between 6 and 16 May 2021 in the city of Barcelona and online, is now open.
This shared initiative is promoted by the Barcelona City Council, Col·legi d’Arquitectes de Catalunya and Fundació Mies van der Rohe, with the collaboration of Barcelona Building Construmat and Arquinfad.
For ten days Barcelona will host a wide range of activities related to the world of architecture and urban space, beyond physical, disciplinary and territorial boundaries, to stimulate reflection on the built environment of cities and its value through the dissemination of architectural culture, knowledge and debate.
This year the suggested format is hybrid and invites participation both in person and through the media, social media and the internet, to collectively re-imagine what it is that makes up the spaces we inhabit: from the small scale of rediscovered domesticity to the large scale of public space and the challenges of the future that lie ahead for us.
We can already announce some activities that promise a rich and high quality programme, such as the cycle of onsite+online debates of Fundació Mies van der Rohe, the photographic exhibition by Arina Dähnick at the Mies van der Rohe Pavilion and CaixaFòrum, the architecture festivals in each district, organised by COAC with architecture schools and neighborhood associations. Public art, hidden spaces, rationalist architecture, urban landscape, vertical gardens and a competition for intervention on party walls will also be activities to be enjoyed between 6 and 16 May, respecting the measures recommended by the health authorities at all times . And a lot of cinema and documentaries that broaden the offer of Arquinfilm, by Arquinfad and the novelty of the BARQ International Architecture Film Festival.
We encourage your organisation or institution to add its proposal! Architecture Week is an open initiative that aims to generate synergies between different social, cultural and artistic disciplines and to take advantage of the new formats that have recently been incorporated into everyday life.
You can check the terms and conditions here, there is time until 31 March!
