As part of the “Art en Pedra” exhibition at La Pedrera, the performance “La Caída o el gran altre: el mur d’ònix daurat” is presented around the onyx piece of the Mies van der Rohe Pavilion.
The term “persona” comes from Latin and meant “mask” in the context of theatre. We all wear masks and relate to others through them so that they identify us, but they also hide our deepest selves; often even from ourselves.
“La Caída o el gran altre: el mur d’ònix daurat” is a dance piece that explores the depth of human relationships and how this can be abysmal. Sometimes, the bond that unites two people is stronger than their reason or their will, to the point that the individual is lost in duality. Who am I really for the other?
In the adaptation of this creation to the Mies van der Rohe Pavilion, the question of duality is raised based on the relationship of the bodies with each other and with the golden onyx wall that presides over the noble room. This semi-precious stone, as well as the reflections and transparencies that we find around it, is that great other, unfathomable in its natural and artificial beauty at the same time. What does the golden onyx piece say about us as humans?
