The Fundació Mies van der Rohe cedes several elements of its documentary collection to the Museu d’Art Contemporani de Barcelona for the exhibition “A Short Century: MACBA Collection”.
“The presentation is intended to explain the history of modern and contemporary art through the particular perspectives, policies and issues that the MACBA Collection has developed since its beginnings. In addition, this story is presented specifically from the perspective of Barcelona, so that dates like 1929 and the episodes that are shown below are rooted in the city. Without going any further, the Barcelona Pavilion, an emblem of international utopian modernism, was the reason that the artists of the Bauhaus like Josef and Anni Albers visited the city of Barcelona. In dialogue with the work of the first artists of modernity -Alexander Calder, Joaquín Torres-García and Alberto, among others-, the transformation of Barcelona and its commitment to modernity are analyzed and presented in this exhibition. ”
In particular, a photograpy album from the 1929 Pavilion, two photos of the pavilion building and the royal reception during the inauguration in 1929 and 9 other photos from the Berliner Bild-Bericht collection, all of them belonging to the Archive of the Fundació Mies van der Rohe are part of this cession for the exhibition at MACBA.
