148 activities make up the Model and +Model program that turns the surroundings of the Parc de les Glòries into a laboratory for architectural experimentation

The festival, promoted by Barcelona City Council, is organized through the Mies van der Rohe Foundation and has the artistic direction of Eva Franch and Gilabert, in collaboration with a large team of architects, curators and commissioners and more than 50 institutions and organizations of the city selected through an open call.

Model aims to transform the urban space into a platform for emerging architectural talent and design, the city into a meeting forum for thought leaders from all over and, more significantly, architecture into a space of exploration and inspiration for all citizens.

The 2023 edition of Model. Barcelona Architecture Festival has 64 activities five thematic axes around the idea of radical empathy as a backbone that offer a common conceptual and practical platform for all the events of the festival, including +Model activities which are: Between-Species, Between-Cultures,Between-Classes, Between-Generations, Between-Materials. In accordance with these axes, proposals have been selected through the Model Awards for Architectural Experimentation in their three categories: Installations Model Award + Digital Architectures Model Award + Thinking and Curatorial Model Award

On the other hand, +Model’s program of activities has 84 activities that start from an open call for independent projects from all institutions, organizations, groups and interested people with the aim of enriching the debate on the impact of architecture on society and the recognition of architectural and cultural heritage from various points of view: installations, exhibitions, debates and conferences, audiovisuals, routes and visits, parties and workshops.

As a novelty for this edition, the +Model Awards have been awarded, endowed with €1,000 each, to 15 activity proposals selected by a jury that has assessed the relevance and contribution of the proposals to the themes of axes and the objectives of the festival.
