The Fundació Mies van der Rohe has presented its latest publication, which joins the collection of publications on artistic projects carried out in the Mies van der Rohe Pavilion. This time, the book in question is the catalogue of Peter Downsbrough’s project “AND / AS HERE PLACE SET THE THEN”, which he implemented in the Mies van der Rohe Pavilion in spring 2016. It is an exquisite, subtle, essential and painstaking work that offers up new perspectives and invites us to reflect on the decisive role of the position taken by each element, in language as well as architecture.
“My work offers a reflection on the importance of the position taken: that of sculpture within its context, that of the viewer vis-à-vis the work, that of the artist within the world that surrounds. Within these complex structures the position of each element plays a decisive role, and this goes for language as well as architecture.
The words used to mark the architecture, the passage thus offer an opening onto the environment, an opening towards interpretation. Conjunctions articulate relationships that leave everyone free to decide their own terms.”
