On the occasion of the appointment of the city of Copenhagen as World Architecture Capital 2023, the director of the Copenhagen Architecture Festival, Josephine Michau, presents the Blue Diversity film series, which will include films set in seas and oceans in order to talk about their biodiversity, and our current relationship, conception and management of the vital resource of water.
The third film of the series is Lords of Water by Jérôme Fritel.
In Lords of Water, Jérôme Fritel delves into the intricate web of power and influence surrounding the world’s most precious resource: water. Characterized by a sophisticated analysis of the cultural and historical context of the issue, the film presents a rigorous examination of the language, law and logistics employed by private corporations and their political allies in their endeavour to monetize the world’s water resources. Overall, Lords of Water is a thought-provoking documentary that combines rigorous research with a strong moral message about the importance of water as a public good and a fundamental human right.
In a world where water is both a source of life and a commodity to be bought and sold, how can we challenge the juridical and political structures that have entrenched the exploitation of this vital resource? In other words: how can we resist the financialization of water and protect it as a common good for all living beings?
