BARQ Festival (International Architecture Film Festival Barcelona) is an initiative by NIHAO Films with the support of Fundació Mies van der Rohe, ARQUIN-FAD and Col·legi d’Arquitectes de Catalunya.
This new film festival seeks to vindicate architectural films as a specific genre and to deepen the relationship between architecture and the seventh art. Cinema uses architecture to show and create worlds that explore social realities, and architecture uses cinema to encourage reflection on the most current issues surrounding the spaces we inhabit.
The call for entries received a total of 192 proposals, including feature films, documentaries and short films on architecture. The final selection will be part of the BARQ Festival, which will hold its first edition from 11 to 16 May 2021 within the framework of the Barcelona Architecture Week, both in person and in online format, with an extensive programme that includes a selection of national and international documentary films and several parallel activities (talks, debates, workshops, conferences) including the screening of Two Houses in the Mies van der Rohe Pavilion.
