BARQ Festival 2025 · International Architecture Film Festival Barcelona
The Fundació Mies van der Rohe collaborates with the BARQ Festival, the only international competitive film festival on architecture and design in Spain. This festival is dedicated to exploring the connections between the seventh art and architecture, an initiative by Nihao Films, a production company specializing in audiovisual architecture projects.
Cinema uses architecture to show and create worlds and communicate social realities, while architecture uses cinema to reach society as a whole. With a broad program that includes a selection of national and international documentary films, as well as various parallel activities (talks, debates, workshops, and conferences), the BARQ Festival brings audiences new perspectives on the creative processes of architecture through cinema, fostering dialogue between both arts and generating debate around urban, social, and environmental issues.
BARQ Festival 2023 – International Architecture Film Festival Barcelona
The third edition of the Barcelona International Architecture Film Festival is here, the only architecture film festival in Spain.
The BARQ Festival was born in 2021 as part of Barcelona Architecture Week as an initiative of NIHAO Films. The Fundació Mies van der Rohe collaborated from the start together with Arquin-FAD and COAC and continues to support it now that the BARQ Festival is being consolidated with a selection of documentaries from high quality cinematography from around the world, with its own dates and a great cultural offer with a presentation of the winning feature film in Madrid and with parallel activities around neuroarchitecture and the connections between architecture and cinema.
We are very excited to continue to be part of the growth of this project and we encourage you to go see and participate in the dialogue that many of the directors of the ten feature films and the thirteen national and international short films that will be released will open about social housing, urban segregation, the re-signification of urban spaces and the impact of architecture on human well-being.
